History of the College:

The School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Materials Science was formerly known as the Department of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry when it was established in October 1950. In 1952, during the adjustment of departments, the former Qilu University's Department of Chemistry was merged into Shandong Normal University to form a formal department of chemistry.The college was established in October 2002.After more than 70 years of construction and development, the college has become a high-level talent training base and innovation research center with strong faculty resources, complete personnel training system, basic and applied research, and integration of production, learning and research.The college has achieved landmark achievements such as winning one second prize of the National Natural Science Award and two second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award with its first unit.For more than 70 years, the college has made important contributions to chemical education, talent cultivation, scientific research and social economic development in Shandong Province and even the whole country.

Discipline construction:

The college has two departments of chemistry and chemical engineering, with more than 1400 undergraduate students and over 500 doctoral and master's degree candidates.The college has two undergraduate majors, of which the chemistry major is a national first-class major and the chemical engineering major is a provincial first-class major.It has 2 provincial teaching teams (analytical chemistry and organic chemistry), 1 national first-class course (analytical chemistry) and 4 provincial first-class courses.The college has a postdoctoral research station for chemistry, doctoral degree authorization points for the first-level discipline of chemistry, master's degree authorization points for the first-level discipline of chemistry, master's degree authorization points for the first-level discipline of chemical engineering and technology, master's degree authorization points for chemistry curriculum and teaching theory, professional degree authorization points for subject teaching, and professional degree authorization points for materials and chemical engineering.The discipline of chemistry, which is built on the basis of the college, has been selected as a first-class and peak discipline in Shandong Province.In the fifth round of national discipline evaluation, chemistry has achieved remarkable results and ranks among the top in China.

The college has two national teaching and research platforms, namely the National Key Laboratory for Chemical Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center and the State Key Laboratory for Chemical Imaging Materials and Technology (under construction), which are jointly established by the province and the ministry. It also has four ministerial-level research platforms, namely the Provincial and Ministry Collaborative Innovation Center for Chemical Imaging Functional Probes, the Key Laboratory of Molecular and Nanoprobe of the Ministry of Education, the Innovation and Talent Introduction Base for Molecular and Nanoprobe Discipline (111 Base), and the Engineering Research Center for Functional Chemicals Intelligent Manufacturing of the Ministry of Education. In addition, it has five provincial-level key laboratories or engineering research centers, two department-level key laboratories, one industrialization pilot base, more than 30 internship bases for normal education and engineering majors, and one school-run experimental factory.

Teaching and research achievements:

The college has undertaken 36 various teaching reform projects, won 35 teaching achievement awards such as the second prize of national-level teaching achievements, the special award for Shandong Province's teaching achievements and the first prize of provincial-level teaching achievements in postgraduate education in Shandong Province. It also published 14 textbooks and 10 monographs.In the past five years, 18 people have won the Shandong Province Excellent Doctoral and Master's Thesis Award, 13 people have won the Shandong Province Graduate Student Outstanding Science and Technology Innovation Achievement Award, and many people have won the Shandong University Excellent Bachelor's Degree Thesis Award.

The college has undertaken more than 400 high-level projects, including the National 973 Program, the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, key programs of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, major research topics, special instruments, national key R&D plans, and major scientific and technological innovation projects in Shandong Province.He has won 1 second prize of National Natural Science Award, 2 second prizes of National Science and Technology Progress Award, 1 National Invention and Entrepreneurship Award, 3 first prizes and 8 second prizes of Shandong Provincial Natural Science Award, 2 first prizes and 1 second prize of Shandong Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, 1 first prize and 1 second prize of Shandong Provincial Technical Invention Award, and 1 special award for invention and entrepreneurship in Shandong Province.In Nat.CommunMore than 2,300 SCI papers have been published in internationally influential academic journals such as J. Am. Chem. Soc., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., etc.More than 400 invention patents have been applied for, more than 300 of which have been authorized, and more than 30 scientific and technological achievements have been identified.The globally recognized ESI data indicates that the college has consistently ranked among the top 1% of ESI global universities and research institutions.The Natural Index ranking, which represents high-level academic achievements and outputs, has ranked the college first among provincial universities in Shandong Province for many years.

The college focuses on the combination of production, learning and research to promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements for social services.In the past three years, nearly 30 contracts for technology development and technical services/consulting have been signed.A series of research achievements have been made in the fields of green functional catalysts, fine chemical production processes, and environmental analysis/medical diagnostic instruments. These efforts have yielded significant economic and social benefits.

Party-building and ideological and political work:

The college attaches great importance to party building and ideological and political work. The Party Committee of the college has been rated as an advanced grassroots party organization in Shandong universities, and many party members have been awarded outstanding communist party members and excellent party workers by the school.Three classes have won the title of "National Advanced Class Collective", one class has been rated as a "Model for National Advanced Class Collectives", and one league branch has been named the "May 4th Red Flag League Branch".
